Treat Us Right

Natural nurturers. The total package of a support system. We can go out of our way to lead our community, to take a stand, to be the inspiration, to lead the tasks. It’s a natural ability that we have, that Black womxn blossom in. Support our accomplishments, our achievements, our growth, our light. Don't belittle our becoming.

Insecurities will do everything they can to silence us, blame us, shame us, slander us, sexualize us, and kill us when we don’t fall in line. How many more times must we accept violence, endure pain for love, wipe our tears, ignore our health, and be forgotten? How many more times must we settle down, stay in our place, refrain from speaking objectively, and still perform when asked?

We are the creators of life, yet we don’t get treated right. At times we get put against each other because only one of us can shine at a time. Who taught us to be okay with hating and degrading other womxn ? Is it possible for us to excel in life without being questioned on our marital status, body counts, childbearing ability, education, intentions, or orientation? Is it possible for us to successfully leave harmful situations without being deemed bitter, masculine, trouble, dirty, cold, or a divider?

Why is it dishonorable for womxn to have an opinion, to know right from wrong, to have standards, or to beat a man at his own game? Why do we have to endure assault, apologize, tone down, not be angry, change who we are, reject our accomplishments, move over, and just be the background supporting role? Misogyny is one helluva drug.

Toxic masculinity has run rampant for too long. It is the tool that has affected our communities and has made us to believe that womxn must do what we are told in order to have love, to feel safe, to be accepted, to get chosen. It’s time to uproot the mistreatment. We ought to be treasured, protected, fought for, believed, appreciated, and loved. All womxn should have the chance to grow and be heard. We hide so much, we smile through so much, we stay through so much, we cover so much, we protect so much, we pray so much. Set our light free.

Have you ever experienced a scorn womxn? Someone who has tried, but the negative pour has now overtaken her willingness to breathe and think freely? Treat us right. Embrace our warmth. Uplift us in truth. Support us when we support other womxn. When we shine the room illuminates, everyone is touched with grace. No need to sabotage just love and embrace. We are deserving of every good thing. We have perfection in our imperfection, even our flaws can teach us ways in how to be great. We are the movers, the shakers, the creators, and the avhievers.

There is more to us than our bodies. We have so much to believe in, to do, to strive for, to contribute, and to love. We have a place, we exist, we are loved, we are protected, we are admired, we are supported. We will be heard. There is value in us. When you treat us right, you get to experience us, in all our beauty and insight. Watch us grow and see how we evolve. Don't belittle us. Protect us, love us, encourage us, and believe us. Now watch us blossom as we take flight.

In Warmth and Light,
